….. there 452,882 people out of work. That is a 20 year high and probably more people out of work than at any other time in the history of the State.
Yesterday I wrote about a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnell, but these are shocking figures, so while we are getting pockets of job creation, which I am delighted about, there really is so much work that needs to be done.
A recovery of the economy without jobs is not a recovery in my opinion. The government needs to prioritise job creation across the country and cut back on red tape. Today in the Irish Independent I read that Minister Gormley is being asked to explain why a potential 600 jobs are being held up with regards to the Poolbeg incinerator. I don’t know the ins and outs of this particular case but what I do know is that we should be working our butts off to make jobs happen, not put obstacles in the way. Remember Ryan Air and hangar 16 earlier in the year??
452,882 is a hell of a lot of people, who’s lives are severely effected. We need a plan, we need jobs, we need action……..
